Victory and Cinderella – March 19 Devos

The following is an email devotional I sent out to the ladies in my small group.

Hey ladies!

I hope that this email finds you well! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been just exhausted lately. If that describes you this week, make sure to take some time (even 30 minutes) to do something just for you And if you need to rest more than you need to read this email, that’s ok! I totally give you permission to close your email and come back to this at another time. 🙂

This week’s devotional is in two parts. First, I’d like to spend some time processing some of the themes in Judges. Then we’ll move on to Ruth briefly.

Chris preached on the theme of Judges this past weekend, and I thought he did a good job! When he presented the cycle we see in Judges of sin – oppression – repentance – deliverance, did you see yourself in there? I did! Do you ever feel like certain areas of your life are 2 steps forward 2 steps back? Or maybe you’re just stuck in a sin-confess, sin-confess kind of cycle and never find deliverance.

It can be so frustrating! Where is the victory Jesus talked about in that?!  (more…)

Are You Weary?

There has been an epidemic recently… everyone I talked to was tired, weary, and generally just feeling blah. I just emailed my favorite girls (my small group) to hopefully encourage all of us all right out of this tired feeling. I sure don’t like feeling lethargic, apathetic, and generally worn out. I want to be filled with the strength, joy, and peace that comes from Jesus.

So here’s what I wrote:

I noticed over the past week that there has been a lot of tiredness and weariness going around. And in talking to many of you, you have expressed the same thing. I know that I’ve been more tired than usual lately. It reminded me of what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30: 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (more…)
