Have you ever really listened to the words of some of the songs we sing at Christmas? Some of them are on the stranger side. I’ve been pondering them lately, and my friend Ashley Baker recently wrote a blog that brought another one to light – you can read about her humorous discussion of Figgy Pudding . (I’ve never liked that line in the song either, Ashley!)
So, why is mommy kissing and tickling Santa Clause? And how does he know when you’re sleeping and when you’re awake? That song kind of creeped me out as a child. I was all good with Jesus knowing that stuff – but I wasn’t so sure I wanted Santa spying on me.
Why are we telling scary ghost stories on Christmas? Aren’t those usually reserved for Halloween? Personally, I don’t want to be scared on Christmas, after all, it’s supposed to be a jolly time of year.
If you want to get married so badly, why are you asking a snowman in the middle of a field to officiate? (more…)
