The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.
July 23 & 24 –
All of the generous donations that I got to pack to take to the girls. That’s a lot of stuff!
Our journey officially started on Monday, July 23, where Theresa and I left from Knoxville at 6pm. But really, the trip was put into motion on Wednesday night at church. That night at The Well, Theresa and I went prepared to share a little about our up-coming trip and be prayed for. So when I walked into the room in my sari and an Indian couple and their American friends walked in right behind me, I was a little surprised. In talking, I found out that the couple (Ashok and Sheila) were from Chennai, in Anna Nagar (the neighborhood where the office is), and know the Manogaroms! Small world! So when they return to India, they have invited us to have a meal with them before we leave to go back home. (more…)
These thoughts are excerpts from my journal from my trip to India:
I can’t believe it is the last day. The time went by too fast. Tara & one of the ladies from the office took us to Saint Thomas’ Mount. Tradition says that the apostle Thomas was praying up on the mount when a mob found him and stoned him. A monument and a catholic church have been built there. From the top of the hill, there was a fabulous view of the city from every angle; I can see why Thomas would have been up there praying.
In less than 48 hours (approximately 44… but who’s counting?), I will be boarding a plane and making my way to India! For so long it has seemed so far off, that it almost seems surreal now that it’s just a day and a half away. But even though I start the trip on Thursday morning, it will take somewhere around 23 hours of traveling to actually arrive in India. I will be one tired girl by the time I get there!
So today and tomorrow I am focusing on those last-minute things that have to be done. The majority of my packing will be done tomorrow. Tonight I will be shopping for those last few things I need for the trip. And I am working on getting a few things in the office wrapped up before I leave.
