Harder Than I Thought


I feel led to begin telling a certain part of my story that started in this new season. One I waited for for a very long time.

And I will admit that this is a lot harder to share than I thought it would be. I started to write about it, but had to stop. Not because this is a difficult time in my story, but because of the depths of my heart that I have poured out to the Lord over it. (more…)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the idea of living outside of our comfort zone. I had dinner the other night with Lynda… Lori and Michelle’s mom. As we conversed, Lynda made a small circle with her hands in front of her and called it the “comfort zone”… then pointed to an unseen point just up and to the right, and called it “where the ‘magic’ happens.” I decided to illustrate it – look at the picture:

I was thinking the other day that it has been a while since I’ve written an update about where I am in my healing process. I guess it is because there haven’t been any noticeable changes recently.

Or at least I thought, until I was cleaning the other night. The mini blinds in my room were quite dusty, and I couldn’t put it off any longer. And the windows in my room are huge, so this was no small undertaking…. like, try 2.5 hours to do three side-by-side windows.  (more…)

Hard Hearts and a Hero – February 19 Devos


The following is a devotional email I sent out to our small group. 

Greetings gorgeous gals!

I hope you’re having a good week! I am excited that many of you are coming to the Women’s Retreat this coming weekend. God is going to do some amazing things there.

Whether you are going, or are unable to, this is a good week for all of us to examine our hearts. Two Sundays ago, Brad’s sermon focused on how when God touches the life of any person playing ‘god’, hardness of heart is always a certain reaction. At the end of the sermon, Brad challenged us with two truths to apply to our lives:

  1. Certain sensations are given to us as a gift from God.

My Story of Healing: Encouraged by Sarah’s Story

I listen to K-LOVE radio in the mornings when I’m getting ready for work.k-love I love listening to the Morning Show – the three DJs are very encouraging and entertaining.

On Monday, February 4th, they received a call from a listener with an amazing story. Her name was Sarah, and she shared about her life with severe scoliosis – so much so, that her ribs touched her hips. But only days before calling, the Lord had miraculously healed her and she grew 4 inches! The DJs kept her on the phone for a while to hear more of her incredible story.  (more…)

Patience and Details – February 5 Devos


The following is an email I sent out the ladies of our growth group. 

Hey ladies!

I hope your week is off to a great start! Mine sure has been. Thanks for all of the birthday love today!

I have really been enjoying going through Eat This Book with the church. I love studying specific portions of Scripture, but getting acquainted with the big story is good to do every so often. And even if you aren’t reading along with us, there are still so many things we can learn together!

There were a few things that stuck out to me as I read through Genesis and Exodus. First was the patience of those early saints. Remember, they didn’t have the Holy Spirit to guide them and encourage them. The heard a word from the Lord, acted on it… and then sometimes didn’t hear from Him again in a long time. Can you imagine being Abraham, leaving his home, traveling to where God told him to go, but probably not getting confirmation along the way?  (more…)

Worship Postures


Our women’s small group has regrouped for the semester after taking a little winter break. It was so good to be back amongst my girls!

Part of our evening always includes worshiping together. And we felt that God was leading us to learn more about being physically engaged in worship. So I put together a little handout lesson for the group about some of the postures of worship that are in the Bible. Most of us are comfortable with a few of these, but some may be just outside our bubble of comfortably. I challenged them to ask the Lord how He wanted them to worship. Here’s what we learned:

Psalm 100

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. (more…)

Verse for the Year – January 1 Devos


(The following is an email devotional I sent out to the ladies in our small group.)

Hey ladies! Happy New Year!

I want to encourage you in a practice that a few of us have been doing for a few years. Instead of making resolutions (because truthfully, many of us find those impossible to keep), some of us ask the Lord for a verse or word/phrase for the New Year.  Think of it as a declaration.

For 2010, I asked the Lord for a verse, and he gave me Ephesians 3:17b-19. “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

As you know, that was the year that I was introduced to STEPS and my girls in India. I learned much about love as the Lord awoke a mother’s heart in me for those girls.  (more…)

My Story of Healing: Quiet Waters


I am on a journey of healing with the Lord. You can read about The Need that caused me to get to this place as well as the 6 Months leading up to this point.

Since it had been stated that the Lord wanted to do some healing at our Quiet Waters church retreat, Quiet Waters Logo for WebI was expectant the entire time. Jesus ministered to me in some wonderful ways that weekend, but I additionally kept waiting for the moment that we were released to pray for healing. Friday night, the last hour of the retreat, the Lord finally released us to pray for those things that had been laying dormant in our lives: dreams, hopes, promises, delayed healing, etc. I was up in a flash. The Lord amazed me with how He sent people to pray over me. After that night, I sent an email to each person who prayed for me, so that they could see the big picture of what God did that night. My Story of Healing: The Past 6 Months


The Lord has me in the midst of a healing process. Read the first part of the story here.

If you have ever lived with chronic pain you have probably learned how to cope to some extent and can usually function at a reasonable level most days. But you also know that there are times that there is nothing you can do but to curl up in bed and hope the next day is better.

The NUCCA has worked so well for the past 4 years, but I have noticed that in the past 6 months hasn’t been ‘holding’. Instead of being able to go months with only minor pains, it seems to only be lasting weeks before I feel the need to go back for an adjustment. However, Dr. Heath is in my hometown in Illinois, and I now live in Tennessee with no NUCCA chiropractor nearby. And my knees only seem to be getting worse as time goes by. I hate that I cannot kneel in prayer for any length of time without it effecting me for the next 24 hours.

And the past year I have just grown weary of coping and ‘getting by,’ especially when he had promised me the healing I so desire. I brought my weariness to Jesus’ feet, asking if the time for healing could come quickly.

My Story of Healing: The Need


As I write this, the story of my healing is unfolding. And I feel the push to write it all down, to document the things the Lord does. So I will start at the beginning, and tell this story in parts, as it progresses.

Eighteen years ago, around the age of 13, I started to show signs that something was wrong in my body. It was a couple of years though before I was officially diagnosed with scoliosis and swayback. This means that my spine not only curves side to side, but it also curves in and out too far.

First it effected only my knees – which made a lot of noise because they had been pulled out of alignment. As the years have progressed, I have noticed pain and discomfort in many of my other joints. Most of the pain I carry now is in my lower back though due to my hips being pulled out of place. My fear of the last couple of years is that if something doesn’t change, I could very well end up with early arthritis in my hips, knees, shoulders, etc. Since my diagnosis, I have sought out every type of help for the pain that I could, short of surgery. I have seen every type of chiropractor  and only one has been able to help me to manage the pain recently – Dr. Heath practices NUCCA, and I have to say, I am a big fan of the relief I get.  (more…)
