STEPS Girls Singing in Church

This past weekend, the girls of STEPS sang in their church. The youngest are not singing, but you will see fifteen of them here in their matching dresses. Aren’t they just too precious?

And I love they song they sing about Jesus redeeming them, because He truly has redeemed these girls from a life of no hope. Because of STEPS they have hope of a better life. They are safe, secure, and loved. They are truly blessed little girls!

Day 5, India Summer 2012 – Photo Shoot

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 27 –

While the other team plus Mike traveled to Changlepettu to visit the leper colony, Theresa and I stayed back. We went to the office first to a few things for Isaac. At lunch we headed back to the house. We organized what we needed for the afternoon photo shoot with the girls – we laid out all of the new dresses and hair bows. Since the girls we napping, we also spent some time decorating the new backpacks we brought the girls.

Once they woke up, Vanija sent them upstairs to us two at a time. We let them pick out a new dress, put a new bow or flower in their hair, and then took their pictures. The girls were so cute; they loved picking out their new dress. Plus, we have many more dresses, so Vanija can pass out the rest as needed.

August 2012 Ministry Update

Happy August!

I hope it’s cooling off by you – I know I’m enjoying the cooler (upper) 80s that I have come home to after being in the tropical heat of India!

My time in India was just as wonderful as I could have hoped. I couldn’t get enough hugs from those dear little girls. Read my summary of the trip in the picture below. If you would like to read my day-to-day adventures click on my India page, and go to my facebook to see the pictures, or click here:  Please let me know if you have any trouble opening any of these items.  (more…)

Day 3, India Summer 2012 – Reunited

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 25 –

We landed late and Mike’s suitcase didn’t arrive. It took a while to file a claim with the airport. (We found out two days later that his suitcase was sent on to the city of Bangalore.)

Instead of leaving the airport around 4 or 5, like was scheduled, we didn’t get out of there until 7. Rohan and Ben were there to pick us up, and we stopped by the office quick before heading to the house. By the time we got to the house, the girls were already at school. But it was good to see everyone (Isaac, Tara, et al) and we hung out until breakfast time.  (more…)

Thankful Thursday

Oh my goodness… my week has been so busy with preparations for India, that I almost forgot it is Thursday! Well, for another 30 minutes anyway!

This week I am thankful for:

1. The way that God has worked out all of the details for me and my little team to go to India. He has totally been in every part of it, paving the way for us. It has been awesome to watch! And many of the details he worked out through my sweet friends, family, and church family. What blessings in my life!  (more…)

India 2012 Wish List

Happy Tuesday!

In less than a month, I leave for India to see my precious girls! Thank you so much to those of you who have already given to help me get there, towards items for the girls, or given items for me to take with me. You are sewing into the Kingdom by helping to bless these valuable little lives. Just look at their joyful little faces in the picture – they have joy because they are loved, safe, and secure both physically and in Christ!

As I prepare to go, there are still many things that I need from Isaac and Tara’s Wish List. See below for the full list.

From the list of items, some of the most important that I still need are:

  • 16 Small Backpacks
  • Clothes for the 7- and 8-year-old (they are both tall and skinny)
  • 14 Children’s Bibles (think light-weight)
  • White socks
  • Children’s Multivitamins
  • Small Water Bottles

Thankful Thursdays

This week I am thankful for:

1. My 16 precious little girls on the other side of the world. I love the mother’s heart that the Lord has put in me for those beautiful children. And I can’t wait to see them again this summer! You can read all about my girls on my India page.

India, Day 3 – Meeting the Girls!

These thoughts are excerpts from my journal from my trip to India:

December 3… after sunrise

I might have fallen asleep at 4am… it is now 7:15am and I am ready to go! Myself, the 3 guys from Kansas (Aaron, Travis, and Ben), and Isaac’s nephew (Rohan) are all staying on the second floor of the orphanage. The others are in Isaac’s house, just a couple of lots away. I haven’t heard the guys make a peep yet. The doors to the second floor are all still locked, so I know that no one else has been moving about yet. The ceiling fan is so noisy that I don’t hear the girls downstairs, so I can’t tell if they are up yet.

My throat really hurts this morning. I could feel myself catching a cold on the plane, but I was hoping that some sleep would help me feel better. Jesus, I need your healing. Touch me today!

I can no longer wait to meet those girls. I guess I will head downstairs!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I came to the quick realization today that it is already the 22nd! Where did December go? It seems to always have a way of flying by, but it went by especially fast for me since I spent the first 10 days in India, then the last two weeks recovering from the jet lag!

I will be traveling home to IL tomorrow for my Christmas break. I hope to get to see some of you along the way. I am praying that everyone has a safe and joyful Christmas season as you celebrate Jesus with family and friends.

News Report on India’s Secret

I am still jet lagging quite a bit from my very recent trip to India. But this morning when I got to the office, I saw an news feed on Yahoo’s homepage that I had to watch. I have already reported on the problem in India about the problem of female infanticide, but here is another news report about the problem. View it here:
