Though None Go With Me…

The church I grew up in has a tradition of honoring high school graduates each year. When I finally found myself in that place, the pastor we had at the time said something very sweet to me. Though there were quite a few of us graduating at that time, I was the only one there who had been involved in the youth group and other activities during my high school years. He said that as he was praying for me, the song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” came to his mind, and more specifically the lines from the second verse that say “Though none go with me, still I will follow.” (more…)

Thankful Thursdays

This week I am thankful for these three things:

1. My church. Two Rivers is a special place where God’s Spirit dwells. I love the people, the pastors, the worship, the preaching, the focus on prayer. I have grown so much in my few short years in this body of believers.  (more…)

STEPS Girls Singing in Church

This past weekend, the girls of STEPS sang in their church. The youngest are not singing, but you will see fifteen of them here in their matching dresses. Aren’t they just too precious?

And I love they song they sing about Jesus redeeming them, because He truly has redeemed these girls from a life of no hope. Because of STEPS they have hope of a better life. They are safe, secure, and loved. They are truly blessed little girls!

Psalm 8:2 – From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise!

Great job girls!

Enjoy!  (more…)

The Psalms – Sept 25 Devos

Our growth group is doing something new this year. On our off weeks when we aren’t meeting (because we’re an every-other-week group), we’ve decided to be intentional about studying something together. So myself and a few others are listening for where God wants to take us on those off weeks, then I’m sending out a devotional for all of us to do together. So here is what I wrote to them this week:

The Psalms

Hey ladies!

I hope you are all doing well today! Since this is our off week, we’ll be doing some devotions. The idea is to take the next week to think and pray over our topic and come to growth group next week ready to share (if you feel comfortable doing so) what the Lord has been showing you.

When I was sharing my story with you all last week, I was reminded of how when I was in that dark desert time there was only one passage of Scripture that I was able to read. God had me camp out in Psalm 27 for a very long time; it gave me hope when I had none. I read it, and prayed it, and recited it back to Him so often. So this week, we’re going to talk about the Psalms in our stories. The Psalms are so full of raw emotions that we often find ourselves looking for comfort, guidance, promises, or praise during different parts of our journeys. Remember, Psalms were songs in ancient times. So just like songs today stir emotions, so the Psalms did then and continue to do so now.  (more…)

Day 14, India Summer 2012 – The Last Day & Mehndi

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

August 5 –

Sunday, our last day. How time flew by! We went to church and I wore my new sari from Faith. Church was two hours long today, per the norm. When the started serving communion at the end, we had to sneak out since Isaac had to at a memorial service.

On the way home, we drove through a cemetery because Tarun wanted to see the grave marker for their cousin (the one we were going to the one-year memorial service for). Cemeteries are an odd thing to see in India, since Hindus burn the deceased on a funeral pyre. We saw where Isaac’s cousin was buried, not far from where his parents were buried.

We stopped by the house to pick up everyone else, then headed to the memorial service. I thought the concept was a really neat one. A year after a loved one has passed away, a service is held where the family members come together to honor their loved one. After sharing some memories and a short message from the Bible, the family gathered for a meal.   (more…)

Days 1 & 2, India Summer 2012

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 23 & 24 –

All of the generous donations that I got to pack to take to the girls. That’s a lot of stuff!

Our journey officially started on Monday, July 23, where Theresa and I left from Knoxville at 6pm. But really, the trip was put into motion on Wednesday night at church. That night at The Well, Theresa and I went prepared to share a little about our up-coming trip and be prayed for. So when I walked into the room in my sari and an Indian couple and their American friends walked in right behind me, I was a little surprised. In talking, I found out that the couple (Ashok and Sheila) were from Chennai, in Anna Nagar (the neighborhood where the office is), and know the Manogaroms! Small world! So when they return to India, they have invited us to have a meal with them before we leave to go back home.  (more…)

Memorizing James

I love Beth Moore’s Bible studies. She has been gifted with an amazing way to communicate Truth to women. In the spring, I went through her new study on the book of James with some ladies from my church. It was a great time of learning and challenging, as James did not mince words… he told it like it was!

The other exciting thing about this study was that Beth Moore has created five different levels of participation. One of levels was, on top of the homework, to memorize the book of James by the end of the year. So a few of us decided we wanted to do this. (more…)
