The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.
August 4 –
The girls had school today (Saturday), but we got a little hang-time with Vanija and Angel this morning!
We played “spot the chameleon on the post”. Can you see him? (more…)
Yesterday I hit the big 3-1. It wasn’t near as hard as changing decades last year. Since my weekend was busy with ministry stuff (selling tickets, the play performances, etc) and the Super Bowl, it didn’t leave much time for me to celebrate. But I had Saturday night free, so I went out with three of my good friends: Theresa, Wendy, and Shaun.
I decided that the thing I wanted to do most was have Indian food. So I got dressed up in one of my Indian outfits (a chula, to be exact) and we went to Taj. The food was excellent and the darling Indian couple that runs the restaurant were so sweet and excited to learn that I’d been to India.
These thoughts are excerpts from my journal from my trip to India:
Tara and I started out the morning by giving the girls a few of the items that the team and I brought over. She explained that they don’t get everything at one time because she wants them to appreciate it all. So we gave them a few things: hairbrushes, hairbows, a few new dresses, some candy. It felt like Christmas morning – it was so much fun to see their reactions to it all. They kept saying “Thank you Akka!” while touching my face and giving countless hugs.
