Day 8, India Summer 2012 – Buster the Wonder Pup

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 30 –

We got to sleep in a little this morning, then headed to the office. Isaac asked Mike to share a little of his story with the staff. Then we planned out everything that needed to be accomplished during the week. Theresa & I got to work on some letters, and Mike went off with Ben and Rohan.

Around lunchtime, Rohan came back to the office with a surprise… Sitara’s birthday present from her parents. A very adorable, rollie-pollie Golden Retriever puppy!

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for these three things:

1. The ability to read. I love to read, to just get engrossed in a good book. I love to study God’s Word and learn through Bible studies. I am so thankful that I live in a country that gave me the opportunity to learn to read. One of my favorite books is Pride and Prejudice.

Day 7, India Summer 2012 – Church & Sweet 16

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 29 –

Church starts at 8:30 and is over a half hour away, so we had to be up early today! Emmanuel Methodist Church had a guest preacher – he was very good and engaging. Normally church lasts two hours, but after the service today, they did a special time of thanking the retiring secretary and welcoming the newest addition to the pastoring staff, which took another hour. But Isaac took us out before it was through, because we had to get back to the house to celebrate Sitara’s 16th birthday!

On our way home, we picked up four of Sitara’s friends. Isaac and Tara had the party catered and, much to (Kansas team’s) Gail’s delight they bought chips! And it was the biggest bag of chips any of us had ever seen!

Thankful Thursdays

Wow, it has been a while since I’ve had a chance to post a Thankful Thursday. What with traveling and recovery time, it just has gotten away from me. But here are the three things I’m thankful for this week:

1. I am so thankful that about 6 years ago God miraculously and instantly healed me of the horrible migraines that I had been suffering from. It happened through the simple prayers of a little group of sweet brothers and sisters in Christ gathered around me at a camp outside of Tecate, Mexico and prayed for the pain to end. I have been migraine-free ever since, and rarely even get a headache anymore. Thank you, Jesus!  (more…)

Lunch Notes

For the past week on my facebook feed, I have been seeing so many First-Day-of-School pictures. I remember the excitement of wearing my new outfit, with a new backpack full of new school supplies (especially that box of brand new crayons!), and getting ready to go into my new classroom. I was one of those kids that genuinely loved going to school.

One of my favorite things about school was the anticipation of opening my lunchbox. I usually knew what kind of sandwich I would be getting, since my mom always asked me what I wanted. Butter, peanut butter, and homemade pickle slices was one of my favorites. Don’t judge if you haven’t tried it! It was amazing!

Day 6, India Summer 2012 – Swimming & the Beach

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 28 –

It is Saturday and we are taking the girls to the beach! We loaded up early, and I road with the girls on the bus. We were headed to Scripture Union Camp where they have a pool and beach access, which is an hour or two south of the city… I lost track of time because we were having so much fun on the bus. They were SOOOO excited to be on our way! I think Karunya bounced in her seat most of the way there.

Day 5, India Summer 2012 – Photo Shoot

The following is excerpts from my journal from my most recent trip to see the girls of STEPS Home in India.

July 27 –

While the other team plus Mike traveled to Changlepettu to visit the leper colony, Theresa and I stayed back. We went to the office first to a few things for Isaac. At lunch we headed back to the house. We organized what we needed for the afternoon photo shoot with the girls – we laid out all of the new dresses and hair bows. Since the girls we napping, we also spent some time decorating the new backpacks we brought the girls.

Once they woke up, Vanija sent them upstairs to us two at a time. We let them pick out a new dress, put a new bow or flower in their hair, and then took their pictures. The girls were so cute; they loved picking out their new dress. Plus, we have many more dresses, so Vanija can pass out the rest as needed.
